Spiritual Warfare of Antiquity
People talk about all the wars that have been waged by mankind upon each other and the loss of lives has been staggering. But no human war has inflicted the colossal loss of life that been caused by a different war upon this planet. This war has left a wide and terrible highway strewn with the bodies and the lives of billions of people along the way. There are two unseen opposing forces engaged in a non-stop battle 24 hours a day year in and year out, over centuries and thousands of years, and there is never a lull or rest. These two opposing forces are good and evil, and it is mankind which has suffered every single maiming, crippling, and fatality. These two forces are described throughout the scriptures from the beginning in the Book of Genesis, to the Book of Revelation, as being the angels of God versus the fallen spirits led by Satan, whom was cast out of heaven. In the middle of this struggle is mankind. It is mankind which must choose their God.
The word of God describes this invisible activity throughout the course of human existence, beginning at the Garden of Eden, and it can be traced all throughout the ages of time, and even to this very present world.
The truth, in all its ugly reality is that there is a vicious struggle being fought day and night for the very souls of people of high and low stature, and regardless of age, wealth, poverty, or social status. It is a conflict of unimaginable fierceness, and affects the lives of every human being that has ever been born, or will be born on the face of this planet.
I’m not talking about a war involving military confrontations being fought with the might of the world’s military forces, armed with annihilating nuclear delivery arsenals, but it is never-the-less a real on-going war without pause, of horrible consequences, which has left an incalculable number of casualties strewn throughout the history of man’s existence.
It is a war being fought against an enemy that cannot be seen. It is a war that has affected and touched every person that has ever existed, or will ever exist in this world, from the unborn in the womb, to the old man. It offers no sympathy or mercy to anyone and overlooks and ignores frailty or infancy. It will leave no one untouched, no matter your beliefs, religious standing, social stature, or level of intelligence.
It matters not if you are at the bottom of a ditch, or the President of the United States. It matters not if you are broke and living on Skid Row, or the richest man in the world. It matters not if you are in the supreme state of physical conditioning or lying broken in a hospital bed. It is a war that has and will enslave, torment, tear down, injure, maim and kill without conscience or remorse, and will offer neither regret nor repentance.
Look at your world today, then study human existence throughout its history, and you will see a conflagration that has injured, wounded, maimed, and killed people of every age and of every nation without prejudice. It is a trail of destruction that has cut short the lives of good men and women, young people, and has destroyed dreams, homes, marriages, businesses, schools, cities, and nations. It has turned son against father, daughter against mother, brother against brother, and sister against sister, and nation against nation.
It is a war between love and hate. It is a war between God and Satan that has existed from the earliest beginning of time, and its beginnings can be seen even invading the Garden of Eden. This conflict can be seen continuing unbroken, without pause, throughout man’s existence up to the present day.
This enmity actually has a history in the eons of eternities past, when Satan, then named Lucifer, left his appointed post, and sought to set up his throne in the heavens and make himself equal to God. The word of God describes him in the book of Isaiah, in chapter 14 and verses 12 through 17.
He was created perfect in beauty, and wisdom, and every precious stone, the diamond, the emerald, the topaz, sapphire and gold, and many kinds of precious jewels were all his natural covering. When he spoke, his voice was like the sound of all the beautiful instruments ever conceived. He was an angel of the highest rank responsible for the covering of God’s Holy throne.
But by reason of his excellent beauty and wisdom he began to worship himself, and thought that because of his great beauty and wisdom, and his high position, he should be worshipped also, and sought to be on the same level or equal to God. He aspired he would rise up and be a God just like the creator, and he would set up his own kingdom that would be alongside and equal to God’s holy kingdom. It seems that this being, in his blind jealousy forgot that he was a created being, with no power of his own.
He was probably the highest ranking angel, and was ever in the presence of God, until iniquity was found in him. No, Lucifer was not the brother of Jesus, and he was not a god, but he was a created spirit, but desired to be god, and the bible is very clear of this being the reason as to why he was cast out of heaven. For without any outside provocation or temptation, he said: I will ascend into heaven, I will exalt my throne above the stars of God: I will sit also in the mount of the congregation, in the sides of the north: I will ascend above the heights of the clouds; I will be like the most High. (Isaiah 14:13)
For this, Lucifer was cast down to the ground, along with one-third of the angelic beings of heaven who were like-minded and deceived by him into believing that he would succeed and rise to lead a new order, and a new kingdom outside of the authority of God, and that his throne would be just as high as God’s throne. He is the leader of the opposing forces of the invisible world.
Satan had no provocation or outside temptation brought upon him in heaven, but this rebellion was born within him, and therefore no redemption is found for him or his followers. Some teachers of the gospel have proposed that Satan fell as a result of the temptation presented by Adam and Eve in the garden. It is supposed that Satan saw the relationship between God and man and saw the authority God gave Man, and schemed to steal it.
The whole supposition that everything was perfect is quoted from Genesis verse 31 of Chapter 2, when God saw every thing which he had made, and behold, it was very good. So the conclusion is that Satan couldn’t have fallen yet, because God saw everything which he had created and it was very good.
The Book of Job describes the angels being present when God created the stars and they shouted in joy. The angels were already in existence probably long before God began his plan to make the world and everything in it.
When the word says in verse 14 of Chapter 1, that God then made the sun and the moon, as well as the stars, it was probably then that the angels saw the creation of the stars and shouted out in surprise at the awesomeness and the demonstration of power which God used in making the stars. It is clear from the whole description of Genesis that nowhere is it mentioned that God created the angels during the physical creation of the universe. It is clear by studying the word carefully that we can realize that there are two realms in existence. The first realm is that of the invisible, and this is the realm in which God makes his abode. Then there is the Physical, visible realm which came in existence only when God spoke it so. That’s why I believe that God spoke about the physical realm he had created a being “very good.”
Therefore, the angels existed outside of, and before the physical creation of the universe, the earth, and the stars. God saw the physical universe and all the worlds, the earth, and sun and the moon, and the stars also, and he said, behold it is very good. God was obviously speaking about a physical and visible creation, and not a spirit invisible creation.
It is my personal observation and belief that Satan had already fallen in the eons of time past, and our God already had a plan for his next step, and that was to create an physical race of beings, with a free will who could choose to love him or not.
I believe that Satan was cast down out of heaven sometime in the past and that is why he was there in the Garden of Eden after God began to form a new earth and a new heaven. I contend that Satan and his fallen angels were cast down to the void of the earth, and they were there in the earth which was without form and in the darkness of the deep. I may even conjecture that Satan was responsible for the earth becoming dark and void, because it’s possible that this condition was caused by God hurling him and a third of the angels with such wrath that the earth was made ugly by their brutal impact upon the whole surface as the earth rotated on its axis. That’s just a musing thought and I wouldn’t form a dogma about this as a reason for the darkness and emptiness.
Satan was tripped of power after his fall, and had never had power apart from what God had given him in the performance of his ministry in heaven, for if he had power, he would have brought about change in the earth. I believe Satan was only given permission to live only in the air or atmosphere of the earth. He was a prince in heaven of the highest order, but on earth he was still a prince without a realm and an absolute loss of power, and that’s why even the word of God calls him the “prince of the power of the air.”
Another point made that Satan did not fall until Adam was in the garden is based upon the Book of Ezekiel, and verse 13 of Chapter 28, in which God said, thou hast been in Eden, the Garden of God. So the assumption is that Satan was present in the earthly Garden of Eden, and is described by God as being perfect, until iniquity was found in him, which was the crime against Adam and Eve, to make himself the God of this world.
But looking more closely, the word says clearly that God “planted a garden east in Eden” and placed the man there. I believe that everything which God has created here on earth is a mirror reflection of what is in heaven. The Ark of the Covenant in the Jewish tabernacle was a mirror image of the Ark of the Covenant in Heaven. The Mercy Seat in the Tabernacle was a mirror image of the Mercy Seat in heaven, upon which Jesus entered and sprinkled His blood as proof that He had indeed died.
Certainly if God planted a garden for himself on the newly created earth and called it Eden, then I would speculate that he would surely have a Garden of Eden in heaven also. It was in heaven that Satan walked in the midst of the stones of fire, and it was in heaven that iniquity was found in him. It was from heaven that he was cast out from and he became the prince of the power of the air. He was allowed to make the atmosphere his abode, but the earth itself was not given to him for his use. He was indeed the first “homeless” creature. This is why he sought to wrest authority over the earth from the first man so that he could have rule. He sought to establish himself as lord over the children of God to strike a blow back at God. I will never argue this to the point of contention with any other child of God, but it is only my own speculation, foolish as it may be.
As Lucifer, meaning “light bearer,” he was in the highest position to lead worship of all the holy angels to God and had the anointing of God to lead this heavenly choir of angelic voices, and was the covering of God’s throne. Imagine billions and billions of angels worshipping God, and you can imagine how Lucifer, at the top of this worship would begin to want that he be worshipped also. The word of God shows us how by his beauty and wisdom, and his covering with every precious stone, and his majestic voice, and his lofty and high position, so close to God, it perverted his thinking, and he began to desire to be like God. He induced one third of the angels who were like-minded to follow him and split off from God’s kingdom. It wasn’t that God was ignorant of his plans all along, but God waited for him to decide to bridle himself or go headlong into ruin.
The word shows us in Ezekiel 28:15 that he was perfect in all his ways until iniquity was found in him, but it doesn’t mean that God suddenly discovered it. It is saying Lucifer was perfect in every way until that moment that iniquity conceived in his heart, and the way back to repentance was closed and then he became the epitome of ruin. The face of ruin was the undisputable evidence that iniquity was in him. The brilliance was extinguished and his beauty faded and he became the twisted face of utter ruin.
Sin or iniquity upon the face of man is no different. You can see the destruction of sin in a person’s life when he is deeply involved in sin. A beautiful model or star becomes wretched, and haggard, and death begins to knock upon their door too early when they fall into drugs, and a life of sex, alcohol and raucous living.
You can see the effects of sin on the faces of people living on skid row steeped in an alcoholic or drug life. You see it on superstars who fall into the spiral of darkness and chase after everything they think will fill that empty hole in their soul, but to no avail, and a plunge into the dark recesses of sin ravages their bodies until death is the only thing they believe will bring release. Sin always brings ruin, destruction and eventually death.
Sin opens the door for Satan to legally operate in a person’s life, and Jesus said that it is Satan who comes but for to kill, to steal, and destroy.
Satan did not go quietly, as the word tells us that there was war in heaven, and Michael and his angels fought the devil and his followers, and Satan was cast down from heaven in a terrible catastrophic repulsion. Jesus said in Luke 10:18 “I beheld Satan as lightning fall from heaven.
Piercing the Cloak of Darkness
This scroll will attempt to make you, the reader, more aware of your true enemy, and hopefully also encourage you to never give up in the times of trouble. The forces of good on your side are twice as many as those which could be against you. The word of God says that God is on your side, and since God is on your side, who can come against you? (Romans 8:31) When you feel like your life is insignificant, and you feel like no one cares, because your heart is down and discouraged, know this, that your troubles may involve human resistances, but behind every work that causes hurt and pain, there is an opposing force of unseen evil.
The word of God does tell us that we fight not against people, but against these forces of darkness, and workers of evil. (Ephesians 6:12) This does not mean that you should walk and live in fear of this unseen force because in you is the simmering power of God that is just waiting for you to put it into full use. God has given you his authority to speak like he speaks and to take dominion over your world, which can be your own sphere of influence. As a child of God you have God’s authority and his words to empower you to change every circumstance affecting you, but you must speak words.
You must recognize that though you may have a person trying to cause you harm in some way or another, it’s not the person that is the author of all these works against you, but there is almost always a spirit of darkness operating through that person by suggestion, and other means to get that person to respond negatively and create disharmony.
This doesn’t mean necessarily that all your problems with other people causing negative results is always without exception, the work of demonic forces, because often people act that way without any outside influence because their own heart is full of malice, or bitterness. Some people have a malignant attitude because of negatives things which have occurred in their lives, and they live in a state of constant simmering rage, just waiting for someone to give them a reason to vent.
This scroll was written to show you how the unseen world operates, while events are transpiring in the visible world. Once you begin to understand what can be happening in the invisible world while you are struggling against those circumstances or difficult issues, you will gain strength and commitment to do your part to offset the battle and allow the angelic forces of heaven to attain the victory on your behalf. This means that you must begin to speak God’s words. This is called prayer.
Whosoever Shall Say
You can overcome negative situations or circumstances through the power of prayer coupled with faith. You must understand this about the power of prayer and faith; prayer and faith are the two most powerful forces in the universe. Prayer is speaking to God in his words, and giving voice to the word of God, and faith is belief in what god has said will come to pass. Simply stated, it means prayer is saying what God said, and believing that what he already said will come to pass. It will never fail.
God used only his word to bring all that exists into being, and you were made in his image, and you have been given authority to use his words to change your circumstances. He said to Adam, when he took him out from under the canopy of the trees of the garden and stretching his hand across the heavens, showing him the heavens, he said, “See all those stars and worlds? I framed all of that with my words. Now, you use my words to frame your world.”
God has given all his human creation the authority to use his words to frame or design the circumstances in his or her world. Prayer and faith, being the two most powerful forces in the universe, given by God, are incredibly powerful tools when used unwaveringly.
God spoke and expected that what he spoke would come to pass. The bible says that God spoke, and then he saw, and it was good, and perfect.
Again, prayer is speaking what God has already spoken, and faith is expecting that what we have spoken using God’s words, will come to pass.
The word of God says in Romans 12:3 that he has given unto all men the measure of faith, and he has given his words. The measure of faith is not a small pinch as it’s often said, but as the word of God says, the measure means literally, the predetermined amount that every believer will ever need.
The measure is the whole amount or the sum total, and the same amount, that everyone receives. The measure of faith that is in your heart now, is the same measure which you will have in eternity. It is all the faith which you could or will ever need. That is not to say you have received a measure smaller or bigger that someone else, but all have received the measure. That measure is the same measure as all other people of God already have. God did not favor someone with a bigger measure because of the big ministry they would have, because he is not a respecter of persons. The measure you now have will never get any bigger throughout eternity, but what you do with that measure will determine your results.
What people do with that given measure, determines the outcome of their circumstances or even the direction that their lives will take, when they use that measure of faith, or not. “The measure” is not like a cup full or a bushel’s worth, but it is the “supply” given by God. It is not an amount, but a supply that can have limits or no limits.
Please allow me to give this somewhat simplified analogy to the limits or limitless supply of faith which God has already given to each born-again child. Imagine that all the water held back by the world’s largest dam is tied by a large pipe to your house. You can open the spigot a little bit to take a drink or a lot more to shower, or open it much wider to fill your brand new swimming pool, or open it to its widest and allow the tumultuous torrent to run from the dam into your house. This would be water with a limit or water with no limits. This is the same as it is with the measure of faith. You and you alone can determine the limit, or remove the limits entirely, and take advantage of its full power.
People often say in ignorance, that all one needs, to overcome life’s struggles is to have faith as little as a mustard seed, but that’s not what the word says, nor what Jesus taught. People often misinterpret Mathew 17:20 where Jesus rebuked the disciples for their unbelief in their failure to cast out a demon from a little boy.
For Jesus told them “for verily I say unto you if you have faith as a grain of mustard seed, you shall say unto this mountain, remove hence to yonder place, and it shall remove, and nothing shall be impossible to you.”
Jesus was not telling the disciples that all they needed to have was a little teensy bit of faith as small as a mustard seed to accomplish powerful things, but rather he was telling them that if they had faith “as” a mustard seed, nothing would be impossible to them. For the disciples to have just a little faith was not acceptable to Jesus. Little faith had brought on their unbelief.
Jesus rebuked the disciples several times for having little faith. In one instance, (Matthew 8:26) he asks, “Why are you afraid, O you of little faith?” He equated having fear, which is the opposite of faith, the result of having little faith. In Luke 8:25, he asked, “Where is your faith?” He asked this because they were fearful. In Mark 4:40, he rebuked them sharply by saying, “Why are you so much afraid? How is it that you have no faith?”
Little faith brings on unbelief and fear; little faith is hard to see or even distinguish, and little faith is the same as having no faith at all. Unbelief is having some doubt about something, while fear is the unequivocal lack of trust in something. Little faith leads to doubt and unbelief, then fear, according to Jesus’ teachings..
What Jesus actually taught in Matthew 13:31, when he compared heaven to a mustard seed as an analogy, was that one must exercise faith to imitate the smallest of seeds, which is what the mustard seed does, by fighting a good fight to overcome any setbacks, or disadvantages, with strong determination and diligence, and refusing to accept defeat under any circumstances.
If You Have Faith Like A Mustard Seed’s Faith
What Jesus was saying to the disciples was that if they had faith “as” a mustard seed, or rather if they had faith as, or similar to the mustard seed, and reacted as the mustard seed does to adversity, then they could say to that tree be thou removed yonder.
He said that the mustard seed is the smallest of all seeds, but the reader needs to understand that the mustard seed is also a smelly seed. It has a stink so bad that even the birds and other animals of the wild won’t eat it. They don’t just ignore it when they see it but they run from it! The mustard seed is a repugnant smelly seed. That’s really low when even the birds of the forest won’t get near it but even flee from it in revulsion.
Read what he said though, that the seed, being the smallest of the small, and as lowly as can be, refuses to stay in its lowly state of seeming defeat, but struggles hard to take root deep into the ground. It is a smelly seed with great determination to overcome its disadvantages.
It digs deep into the soil to take root, struggles hard against all odds to survive, and eventually grows and becomes a huge herb of tree-size proportions. It becomes so big that it even becomes a fortress for animals to lodge and build nests in, and they can find safety and protection in its strong low-lying branches.
Little faith will never get you the victory. The word of God teaches that when we pray, the angels of God become strongly empowered to act in your behalf to bring about a change in any opposing situations. They become ministering spirits, sent forth to minister to the heirs of salvation. (Hebrews 1:14)
Psalm 103 and verse 20 says; bless the Lord, ye his angels that excel in strength, that do his commandments, hearkening unto the voice of his word. This scripture is explaining that the angels excel in strength, obey his commandments and they hear and attend to, or obey the voice of his word. The voice of his word is the voice you give his word when you begin to speak it out in faith.
This is what this scroll is all about. It will show you the side-by-side physical, spiritual, and supernatural events occurring simultaneously in the affairs of people every day. It will remind and keep you aware of the opposing forces of the unseen realm, and encourage you to be like the mustard seed and take back what belongs to you.
Speak the Words That God Speaks
Speak forth the words of God with unwavering determination, and empower the angelic forces of God to overwhelm the enemy. If you do that, then you will begin to see victory after victory in your life. Believe in God’s words, and pray always. You can change your circumstances with words. The word of God which we are authorized to speak is so powerful, that our human finite minds cannot even begin to comprehend it. It is a cataclysmic, obliterating, annihilating power that no one or anything can resist or stop. It is of such absolute power that no one or anything in the physical or spiritual realm can oppose it or avoid its consequences.
It is a power so infinite and without limits, that only by God’s command and his bounds can the reach and effect of this power be limited. God spoke the universe into existence and it is by his power alone that it is still held together.
This universe has no end or edges, and with every new more powerful seeing device invented by man that allows them to see farther into space, new galaxies by the thousands become visible. Far away galaxies are measured to be in the billions of light years from our planet. The point is; that our universe is so immense that it is without bounds, and the only outer bounds of the universe are only those imagined by men when seen by man’s puny devices.
